Celebrating Thomas Robert Simpson:
2026 Howard Thurman Award Recipient

Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 3 p.m.
Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples
2041 Larkin Street at Broadway, San Francisco
A reception will follow the service.

Join us in celebrating Thomas Robert Simpson, Founder and Executive Director of AfroSolo Theatre Company, who will receive the Howard Thurman Award at the Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples’ 82nd Anniversary and Annual Howard Thurman Convocation.

For decades, Thomas has used theatre and the arts to uplift Black voices, preserve our stories, and bring people together through creativity, healing, and community.

Dr. Howard Thurman (1899–1981) was a pioneering Black theologian, author, and spiritual mentor whose teachings influenced Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement. In 1944, he co-founded Fellowship Church with Dr. Alfred Fisk to bring people together across racial, cultural, and religious differences. The church’s annual award honors individuals who embody Thurman’s life and legacy, making this recognition especially meaningful.
